serendipity

i'm feeling blue these days, but this morning i received two rays of sunlight.  vivian yazon called from france and lovingly advised me to "look at colors... they make people happy."  moments later, laura cassidy (who i'm now convinced has powers beyond the senses) emailed a link to megan whitmarsh's artwork, full of colorful explosions. 

laura is style editor at seattle metropolitan and editor of seattle metropolitan bride & groom.  do yourself a favor and check our her new blog.  besides being a fantastic writer, laura's also a grower of food, musician, cook, and finder of hidden treasures.

cooking with satan

when i first saw the sun city girls play, in and around phoenix arizona in the late-80s, i was too fickle to appreciate their lengthy improvisations. by the time torch of the mystics came out in 1990, i was hooked.

sun city girl charles gocher passed away a few years ago.  i recorded this video of his bandmates/brothers pay tribute to him in seattle.

bill traylor (1854-1949) was a self-taught artist born an alabama slave. unable to read or write, he began drawing at the age of eighty-three.
